Client Goals
The homeowners wanted a low-maintenance outdoor room for family dinners and sunset views—shade, lighting, and space for a future grill line without rebuilding later.
Challenges
Wilden’s hillside lot required engineered footings, wind-rated pergola connections, and careful staging around spring weather. The existing wood deck was failing and unsafe at the stairs.
Design Solutions
Composite decking with aluminum railing cuts upkeep. A timber pergola with dimmable LEDs creates an evening lounge, while concealed rough-ins reserve capacity for an outdoor kitchen phase two.
Build Process
Engineering, demo, framing, decking, pergola, and lighting were sequenced to beat summer entertaining dates. Daily site cleanup protected landscaping on the sloped lot.
Final Details
Hidden fasteners, stainless hardware, and a seasonal care guide keep the deck looking new. The family gained an outdoor room they use from March through October.
